I born in Thessaloniki, after my graduating from high school, I worked as a photographer assistant in Thessaloniki for almost two years. In 2008 I moved to Milan and after one year I enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan to study painting and in 2015 after my compulsory military service I decided to extend my knowledge in sculpture by undertaking a Masters degree in the same Academy.
During my study years, I worked as a photographer and videomaker in Milan. In 2014, I conceived Taratsa International Film Festival, in Thessaloniki, Greece, and I remained the Art-Director for the first 2 years. Apart from photography, I also been interested in and occupied with the video art, installation, performance, sound and sculpture.
I like to experiment with various techniques, mix them, make research, study and to present my thematics with different expressions ways . Significant importance for my research is the experiment, the time into the space and in some cases the interactive existence of humans. I’m interested in the power of simplicity, try to create originality and reveal or not, hidden secrets.
Art in many cases is about experimentation, challenging the limits that we know of and pushing them even further searching for new meanings and forms of creation. Athanasios Aléxo is an artist that does exactly this. A creator of diverse forms Athanasios Aléxo explores video, photography and performance mixing them at times to create contemporary collages that go beyond the restrictions of the media used. In his works Alexo investigates diverse thematics that study human expressions and our relation with the world that surrounds us. Fascinated by the way light interacts in varied scenarios he creates his work with a particular attention to it utilising his past experience as a studio photographer and film maker. Aléxo’s rich cultural background and inquisitive spirit render him a keen observer of our times promising to offer interesting future narratives.
